Michael Caveney Named Commissioner of the Cowboy Collegiate League
The Cowboy Collegiate League is proud to announce Michael Caveney as its new Commissioner. A lifelong student of the game with experience across nearly every level of baseball, Caveney brings passion, leadership, and a deep appreciation for the community side of the sport to the role.
“I got inspired because I got to coach in the Old North State League last summer and loved what Alec and his family are building,” Caveney said. “When presented with the opportunity to help this new league grow, it was impossible to say no.”
Caveney’s baseball journey began on the diamond as a player at Brunswick Community College and Queens University of Charlotte. His coaching career has taken him across the country, with stops at Queens University, Southwest Baptist University, Brunswick CC, and his current position at Nelson University.
In addition to his work at the collegiate level, Caveney has also been involved with USA Baseball, the Knothole Foundation, CBC Baseball, the Badlands Big Sticks, and the Oak Island Loggerheads—experiences that have shaped his broad understanding of player development and organizational growth.
Originally from Augusta, Georgia, Caveney now calls Raleigh, North Carolina home. His Southern roots and connection to the communities of the Carolinas align perfectly with the mission of the Cowboy Collegiate League—to build teams that bring towns together through baseball.
“I’m most excited to see how each town embraces this league and its teams,” Caveney shared. “It was so cool seeing Oak Island come together to rally behind us, and I want others to experience that same thing. That sense of community is what makes summer baseball so special.”
Under Caveney’s leadership, the Cowboy Collegiate League is ready to deliver a genuine small-town baseball experience—one built on passion, competition, and community pride.
